2.2 Stillbirth and FGR

The association between FGR and stillbirth has for a long time been overlooked:

  1. Older classification systems such as Wigglesworth have categorised most stillbirths as ‘unexplained’ (8)
  2. Birth weights of stillborn babies were assessed by a standard which was derived from other stillbirths (9)
  3. In contrast, a standard based on normal term births shows that many stillbirth weights are below the lower centile limit. (The GROW-App can make an adjustment for  weight of stillborn babies, deducting 2 days from gestational age, as an approximation of  average fetal death to birth interval).
